It’s difficult hiring for an industry that is still in its infancy. Here’s some guidelines that I use when hiring SEO, PPC and online marketing talent. (Also known as Digital Marketing)

  • It is easier to teach SEO and  PPC management to a creative writer and mathematician, than it is to teach creative writing and mathematics to an SEO expert and PPC manager.
  • Use IQ and aptitude tests as a filter.
  • Use creative writing examples as a first filter.
  • I personally provide mandatory training to all new hires. Experienced SEOs from an incompetent SEO firm could still do more harm than good if they’ve had the wrong experience.
